Chris Kanyane has played significant roles in shaping South Africa, engaging with key figures and contributing to various fields. He played key role in conducting foundational research for the country's National Development Plan while he was Chief Researcher at the Human Sciences Research Council.
Chris Kanyane is associated with three South African presidents: Kgalema Motlanthe wrote the foreword for his book on the Freedom Charter, Cyril Ramaphosa's foundation commended him for his educational resource, The Universal Spirit of South Africa, and he researched and interviewed Jacob Zuma for his book, The Life of Jacob Zuma.
Beyond South Africa, Chris Kanyane engaged with President Barack Obama in writing his book Moving Forward, which won the Trafford Gold Seal Award. The book was featured in the New York Times, Reader's Digest, the American Library Association, and the London Book Fair, and was recommended by the US Review of Books.
In South Africa, Chris Kanyane was a leading columnist for News24.com and has written research features for all major newspapers in the country. His book Guerrilla Strategies for Public Service Career in South Africa, co-authored with Tshwane University of Technology counseling psychologist Nomsa Bokaba, sparked a movement toward transforming the South African public service.
A public servant of many years, Chris Kanyane has worked at the Department of Public Service and Administration as a Public Service Strategic Specialist. Prior to that, he served as a University Librarian at the University of Johannesburg, Tshwane University of Technology, and the University of Limpopo. He was also Chief Researcher at the Human Sciences Research Council.
In recognition of his contributions, Chris Kanyane was awarded an honorary doctorate by Kennedy University.
Outside of his professional life, Chris Kanyane owns a compact pecan nut farm on a serene and quiet property adjacent to Prestige College in Pretoria, along the 101 Road leading to Hammanskraal.
